APPELLATE PRACTICE
Mr. Stowell has successfully handled clients’ appellate matters for over twenty-five years in California’s state and federal appellate courts. Whether preserving a victory at the trial court level, or reversing an adverse judgment, Mr. Stowell has vast experience in structuring factual and legal arguments that position each matter for its best chance of success at the appellate level. As both a trial attorney and an appellate lawyer, Mr. Stowell has a unique perspective in understanding the factual and legal issues developed during a trial and how those issues will be reviewed and analyzed by the appellate courts. PRIVATE SCHOOL PRACTICE
Mr. Stowell has an extensive practice in counseling private schools on a broad range of issues involving private school operational issues, employment concerns, compliance with state and federal law, leases, liability matters, real estate, facilities management, investigatory concerns, student and faculty issues and facility use. In 2009, Mr. Stowell was named a Southern California Super Lawyer, a recognition garnered by only five percent of the attorneys in the State of California, based upon a detailed research process that relies upon numerous indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement. Mr. Stowell has also been recognized in the Presidential Who’s Who and Montclair’s Who’s Who in North America. For over twenty five years, Mr. Stowell has held Martindale-Hubbell’s highest rating (AV) for legal ability and ethics. In addition, he has twice been selected in the Who’s Who in Professional Services by the Pacific Coast Business Times.
In 1981, Mr. Stowell, earned his J.D. degree from Pepperdine University School of Law, where he graduated cum laude, was the school’s valedictorian, and served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Pepperdine University Law Review. Mr. Stowell is admitted to practice law in all California state and federal courts, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. He is also a member of numerous local and national bar associations and committees.
Mr. Stowell is involved in several charitable and non-profit institutions. He currently serves as Legal Advisor to the Ventura County Museum of History & Art and as an Elder on Session at Malibu Presbyterian Church. He is regularly available for speaking engagements.
