David C. Ruth concentrates his practice on business and real estate transactions, tax planning and estate planning and administration. Mr. Ruth’s tax practice involves sophisticated strategic planning for both domestic and foreign individuals and business entities, emphasizing unique and creative approaches to federal, state and foreign tax planning and compliance. Mr. Ruth’s tax planning and audit defense practices are carefully integrated to ensure that tax planning is sensitive to the scrutiny of a possible audit. Mr. Ruth has substantial experience in assisting nonresidents of the United States with their tax and business matters.
Mr. Ruth also focuses his practice on real estate acquisitions and sales, tax-free exchanges, leasing, financing and ownership structuring, handling transactions involving shopping centers, industrial parks, apartment projects, office buildings, hotels, and residential and country club developments. Moreover, Mr. Ruth is an expert in general business transactional matters, including business formations, acquisitions, sales, reorganizations, financing, restructuring, and daily operational issues. Mr. Ruth’s expertise in this regard also includes knowledge of all aspects of business organizations, including the formation, maintenance and reorganization of closely held corporations, limited liability companies and partnerships, as well as the negotiation and documentation of sophisticated joint ventures involving both real estate and operating companies.
Finally, Mr. Ruth has substantial experience handling the estate planning needs of his individual clients and their families, including business succession planning, will and trust formation and administration, powers of attorney and living wills, and charitable transactions needed to implement an estate plan or administer a trust.
Education and Affiliations
Mr. Ruth earned a B.A. degree from Claremont Mens College in 1978. In 1984, Mr. Ruth graduated from Harvard Law School.
